Notch Lapel
The notch lapel is characterised by a visible indent at the point where the collar meets the
lapel, a key stone on single breasted jackets, and arguably the most common type of suit lapel.
The notch lapel is as appropriate for the boardroom as it
is for the cocktail lounge, as the most flexible of lapel designs.
If you're on the fence about which men's
lapel style to pick, consider it your best bet.
Peak Lapel
The peak lapel has the top lapel edges facing upward at sharp
angles directly below the neck, a sleek modification to the notch lapel.
It is most often seen in double breasted suits
and is thus a regular player in formal events.
The peak lapel nevertheless emanates with elegance and high-end
design, though not as instantly lavish as the shawl lapel.
Shawl Lapel
Look at a shawl lapel and its smooth, uninterrupted lining, and you're already
imagining a ball room and formal dinners with dress codes and bow-ties.
That's because formal wear such as tuxedos and fancy dinner
jackets are more or less exclusively found on shawl lapels.
A timeless sense of class and distinction is
included in the aesthetic of the shawl lapel.
These lapels provide a welcoming compliment to
the formal wear styles of most men.
Double Breasted
The double breasted suit has additional buttons on either side of the
jacket for design benefits, unlike the single breasted form of men's suit.
The total number of buttons varies between
four and eight, usually landing at six.
As a result of the extra buttons, to create the illusion of a wider frame, the focal point drifts
from the seam towards the sides. Usually adorned as a part of uniforms, it adds to the posh aesthetics of men.
Blazers
A blazer is a style of
jacket deemed acceptable for formal occasions.
While blazers are comparable to suit jackets, you usually
don't need matching trousers to go along with them. B
lazers mostly have less structured
shoulders than suit jackets.
Blazers can be a great addition to almost any outfit,
to really bring a look together from casual to formal.
In addition, when it is combined with modern
casual elements, it can provide a versatile look.
